Test Overview
Background:TMBChoiceReactionTime(Germineetal.,2022;Hawksetal.,2023;Rutteretal.,2020;Singhetal.,2021)isachoicereactiontimetest(Donders,1969)designedforremote,web-basedadministration.
TaskParameters:Oneachtrial,participantsviewthreeverticallyalignedsquares,eachfilledwithacolor(blueoryellow)andanarrowpointingeitherleftorright,withoneofthethreesquaresalwaysadifferentcolorthantheothertwo.Participantsmustindicatethedirectionofthearrowinthisdifferently-coloredtargetsquareasquicklyaspossible,usingakeyboardpress(the“x”keyforleft,andthe“m”keyforright)orbuttonpress.Thetargetsquare’scolor(blueoryellow),position(top,middle,orbottom),andarrowdirection(leftorright)arechosenrandomlyoneachtrial.Toavoidresponsepreparationeffects,thetestusesanexponentiallydistributedintertrialintervalrangingfrom700msto1500ms.Participantscompletefourpracticetrialsand30testtrials.
PrimaryOutcome:Thesuggestedprimaryoutcomeofthetestismedianreactiontimeforcorrectlyansweredtrials(medianRTc),ameasureofprocessingspeed.Researchersmayalsoconsiderincorporatingresponseaccuracy(proportionoftrialsansweredcorrectly).
UserInput:Participantsusingakeyboardareinstructedtousethe“x”and“m”keystomakeresponses.Iftheparticipant’sdevicehastouchcapability, atthebeginningofthetesttheparticipantwillbegiventheoptiontorespondusingtouchinputorkeyboardinput.Otherwise,theparticipantmustusekeyboardinput.
AlternateTaskVersions:Alternateformsofthetestareavailableforrepeatedadministration.Additionally, anultra-brief,EMA-compatibleversionisavailable(Hawksetal.,2023;Singhetal.,2023).
Psychometrics:● Reliability: Insingle-sessiontesting,variationinperformancebetweenparticipantshasasplit-halfreliabilityof.95.SeeHawksetal.,2023andSinghetal.,2023forpsychometricdetailsofmultiple-sessionEMAadministration.● Scoredistribution:
